How It Works: Proven Mechanical Protection

Traditional sprinklers are elegant in their simplicity, utilising high-pressure water and heat-sensitive triggers to provide an immediate response.

STEP 1

Thermal Trigger

Each head contains a glass bulb filled with a heat-sensitive liquid. When the room reaches a specific temperature (usually 68°C), the bulb shatters.

STEP 2

Immediate Discharge

Once the bulb breaks, the pressurised water behind it is released instantly. Only the heads directly above the heat source activate, localised to the fire.

STEP 3

Deflector Plate Distribution

The water hits a “deflector plate” on the head, creating a spray pattern designed to soak the surrounding area and “pre-wet” nearby combustible materials to stop the fire’s spread.

STEP 4

Continuous Flow

Unlike some tank-based systems, sprinklers are typically connected to a high-volume water supply, allowing them to discharge indefinitely until the fire service arrives.
