At a residential property in Fulham, London, the sale of the home was at risk due to a lack of a protected means of escape. During previous renovation works, a wall enclosing the ground floor staircase had been removed—compromising the fire safety requirements. As a result, a solution was required before the property could be sold. The prospective new owner, however, was reluctant to reinstate the wall, as it would significantly alter the open-plan layout they valued. The current owner found Mistek online and made an enquiry.
After a review of the layout and subsequent site visit, we installed an Automist system to protect the escape route in the event of a fire. Automist, a smart alternative to traditional sprinklers, offered the ideal balance of safety, design flexibility and a non-invasive installation preserving the homeowner’s desired layout without compromising on safety.
With Automist in place, the protected means of escape was effectively reinstated without the need for compartmentation. The property sale was able to proceed with the open-plan design intact.
